Eelgrass Washer Tying 2025

Eelgrass on Washer ~ C. Hodgson

Date and Time

Flexible – complete before April 30

Location

At home (materials pickup/dropoff required)

Description

We are looking for volunteers to help prepare metal washers ahead of our eelgrass transplanting work which will occur later in May. This volunteer tasks can be done from the comfort of your own home!

The washers need to be pre-prepared by attaching a twist tie, getting them ready to be attached to an eelgrass shoot during the transplant. The washers act as anchors, helping the eelgrass to establish roots after being transplanted.

Volunteers can pick up a bucket of washers and twist ties at the Project Watershed office to be tied at home. Completed washers will need to be returned to the Project Watershed office by April 30th so we can get them in the water.

Sign up below to reserve your bucket, then come by the office any time we’re open (Monday – Thursday, 10am – 3pm) and pick up your washers.

Instructions

You will receive a bucket of metal washers and twist ties. Each washer needs a twist tie attached. Thread the twist tie through the washer and twist it three times. Repeat! See video for a demonstration, and check out the paper insert included with your washers and twist ties for more detailed instructions.
