Exploring the K’ómoks Estuary

Particitating in stewardship tasks ~ Alison Baumann

Each day, campers will explore the estuary and surrounding habitats while taking part in exciting outdoor activities like:

  • 🐟 Mini beach seining & macroinvertebrate exploration
  • 🐦 Bird watching & species identification (including native names)
  • 🌱 Planting, mulching, watering & invasive species removal
  • 🧪 Fun demos like the watershed model & saltwater wedge
  • 🎨 Nature art booklets & creative reflection
  • 🏖️ Beach scavenger hunts & games (salmon vs. seals and more!)

This camp is all about learning by doing. Kids will gain real-world stewardship experience while discovering how estuaries and watersheds work, why they matter, and how we can care for them. Along the way, they’ll build confidence, curiosity, and a deeper connection to the natural world.

We also weave in opportunities to learn about Traditional Environmental Knowledge, helping foster respect for Indigenous perspectives and relationships with the land and water.
