Job Posting: Environmental Technician

Job Overview

Project Watershed is hiring an Environmental Technician to support the delivery of our restoration and monitoring programs. This role will support our Restoration & Monitoring Managers and Coordinator in delivering projects within our costal and freshwater restoration sites. This position will work closely with our Restoration and Monitoring team to monitor our restoration sites, deliver our Community Water Monitoring Initiative, and support stewardship initiatives like invasives species removal.

Location: Courtenay, BC
Term: June 29 – August 28, 2026
Wage: $25/hour (funded through the Canada Summer Jobs program)
Hours: Full-time (30 hours/week, primarily Monday–Friday with some scheduled weekend events)

Applicants must:

  • be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment
  • be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the job and
  • be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations
    • This includes having a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of their summer job

About Project Watershed

Project Watershed is a team of scientists, community educators, and stewardship professionals. We believe that community-engaged science can further stewardship of Comox Valley’s sensitive ecosystems and help us create an inclusive and thriving environment for our future communities. Since 1993, we’ve been working in partnership with scientists, First Nations, communities, various levels of governments and other NGOs to carry out ecological restoration, research and education.

Qualifications

  • BSc (or partial completion of undergraduate degree) in ecology, biology, or applicable environmental field (or equivalent experience)
  • Background or experience in freshwater ecosystems, watershed ecology or habitat restoration
  • 1-2 years experience in ecological field monitoring and/or community science programming
  • 1-2 years experience working in habitat restoration; a combination of experience and advanced education may be considered
  • Experience working in riparian and estuarine restoration, with a wild Pacific salmon lens
  • Knowledge and experience with riparian and estuarine plant identification and community assembly
  • Knowledge of salmonid identification
  • Experience with volunteer coordination and/or management
  • Experience working in partnership or collaboration with Indigenous communities an asset
