Summer Camp Off to a fantastic start!

Our first two weeks of Super Stewards Summer Camp have been filled with adventure, discovery, and plenty of muddy boots! Campers explored local ecosystems through themed days focused on birds, bugs, plants, fish, and estuaries while visiting Rotary Sky Park, the K’ómoks Estuary Lagoon, and Kus-kus-sum.
Highlights included catching insects with bug nets, discovering aquatic macroinvertebrates with the Tsolum River Restoration Society, exploring traditional fish traps, beach seining, creating nature-inspired crafts, and learning how healthy estuaries support wildlife. Campers also took part in stewardship activities, helping care for local habitats while gaining a deeper appreciation for the natural world.
One of the biggest successes of the camp wasn’t just what campers learned—it was the friendships they built along the way. During our end-of-week reflections, one camper summed it up perfectly: “I learned that I like making new friends.” It was wonderful to watch children encourage one another, work together, and build confidence through shared outdoor adventures.
Thank you to our camp coordinators, volunteers, guest presenters, and all of the families who joined us for our inaugural Super Stewards Summer Camp. We can’t wait to continue inspiring the next generation of environmental stewards throughout the rest of the summer!
