LIFT is hosting its Spring Social as a fundraising event for Kus-kus-sum at the Prime Chophouse on April 24th at 6:30 p.m. Anyone can attend. The focus of the event will be an estuary game where teams vie to build the most productive estuary and win awesome prizes! This game debuted in 2016 at a dinner event at Locals Restaurant. It is similar to Settlers of Catan or FarmVille except you are building an estuary. “The game was educational, fun and interactive,” says Deb Lacroix of Ecofish, 2016 winners.
The game is played in teams of up to 10 people. Each team will start with one real live salt marsh plant, then through purchases, donations, answering trivia questions or completing challenges, teams will get different animals and plants to grow their estuary. Points will be awarded for each species added to the estuary, and there will be bonus points for having the most of a species. At the end of the game the points will be added up to find the winning team. “Last time we played the game it was intense. The teams really got into the game.” reports Caila Holbrook, Manager of Fundraising, Outreach and Mapping at Project Watershed.
Goods and services donated by local businesses or provided by Project Watershed for the game include Catherine Reid Yoga private sessions, Spaces VR gift certificates, Broken Spoke gift certificates, Evercoast Handmade beeswax food wraps, Rawthentic gift certificates, bath bombs, coloring books, hats, tote bags, chocolates and more!
Project Watershed hopes to raise $5,000 at this event. All funds raised at the event will be matched by the Estuary Angels so this will create $10,000 of funding for Kus-kus-sum. “We have to purchase the property before we can restore it and we need to raise $50,000 by June 30th to meet our target.” Brian Storey, Project Watershed Treasurer.  Project Watershed will issue tax receipts for any donations over $25 and sponsorship receipts for all sponsorships. All donors and sponsors will be listed on our Friends of Kus-kus-sum page and on permanent signage once the site is restored.
The LIFT team will emcee the event and music for the evening will be provided by DJ Elizar. This will be a great place to show off your knowledge, learn about your local environment and help build a legacy in the heart of our community. You can come with a pre-organized team or come as an individual and join a team at the event. Either way, it will be a rewarding evening of estuary-inspired fun!
Tickets are $45 until April 14th and $60 thereafter.
“The LIFT Festive Cheer event surpassed all expectations and raised around $12,000 for the Kus-kus-sum project last fall, so who knows what could happen this spring. What I do know is that you don’t want to miss this event!” comments Hans Peter Myer.
