Description

We are looking for volunteers to assist with environmental education field trips. Field trips are a fun and educational way to connect students with their local environment and this is a great chance to pass on your enthusiasm for our natural world.

Our field trips consist of three to five planned activities at either Goose Spit, Kus-kus-sum or the Courtenay Air Park. We accommodate up to two classes at a time on a field trip. The classes split into small groups of students that cycle through the activities. A pair of volunteers is in charge of running one activity for the duration of the time period. We will send out step by step instructions of the activities that volunteers will be involved in prior to the field trips. We will provide training sessions prior to the event and in the morning before the field trip begins (attending a training session will be optional). All materials for the activities will be provided. A snack will be provided to those who volunteer in the morning and lunch will be provided to those who volunteer over lunchtime. Volunteers are asked to bring their own water bottle, dress for the weather and wear gumboots.

Activities (during each field trip a volunteer will be involved in one of the following activities):

    • Salmon versus Seal Tag Game
    • Saltwater Wedge Demonstration
    • Garbage Pick up
    • Mulching
    • Invasive Species Removal
    • Beach Seine
    • Nature Walk
    • Fish Trap Demonstration

This year our field trips are in high demand, so we have lots of spots to fill!
