Welcome! We are trialing a new volunteer management software to streamline all aspects of volunteering. Once you select a session for volunteering you will have to register yourself as a user even if you have signed up to volunteer with us in the past. If you have any trouble signing up, please check out our step-by-step tutorial.

Use the arrows on either side of the month name to advance the calendar and see future volunteer opportunities. If you are viewing an opportunity you can click “Back to Events” at the top left to return to the calendar view.

Description

Volunteers will be participating in citizen science by sampling beaches for summer beach spawning forage fish. We then process the sample down from a 4L container to an approximately 500mL container using a gold panning process referred to as sieving and vortexing.

These smaller samples are investigated under a microscope to look for the eggs of surf smelt (summer) and Pacific sand lance and surf smelt (winter). Read more about forage fish here.
