September is coming and it is time to roll up our socks. Joining the Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup with Project Watershed and the Comox Valley Naturalists on September 25th is a great way to pitch in and help our Valley stay beautiful. This year we will be cleaning up around Simms Park and the Courtenay Airpark, you can register for one of the clean ups on the Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup website using the button on this page. [av_button label=’Register’ link=’manually,http://www.shorelinecleanup.ca/en/cleanup/event/fallwinter2016/courtenay-river-simms-park’ link_target=’_blank’ size=’large’ position=’center’ icon_select=’yes’ icon=’ue836′ font=’entypo-fontello’ color=’theme-color’ custom_bg=’#444444′ custom_font=’#ffffff’]
The Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup started with a small team of employees and volunteers at the Vancouver Aquarium who decided to cleanup a local beach. It became a national program in 2002 and  over 57,000 volunteers participate each year from coast to coast.

If you are going to participate in these cleanups please register using the button; you will have to create a login and password. The Simms team will meet at the Simms Park Bandstand at 10am and the Airpark team will meet at the Park Cafe at 10am on the 25th. Clean up will go until noon. Bring gloves and appropriate footwear (somewhat rugged, may get wet), we will provide bags. There will be refreshments at the end as the items and amounts are tallied up.

“This event is a great way to meet people and make a noticeable difference” says Bill Heidrick Project Watershed Board member and cleanup organiser. In fact, the Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup is one of the largest direct action conservation programs in Canada.
