For the sixth year in a row Project Watershed has fielded an intrepid crew to brave the wilds of Simms Park and clean garbage from all its waterways and nooks and crannies.
Recognizing BC Rivers Day, as well as the Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup on Sunday, September 25, 12 hardy volunteers managed to pull almost 150 lbs of “product” from the area including several sleeping bags, blankets, a tent, a chair and other assorted items, the weirdest of which was a punching bag on a stand!
Dog poop bags continue to be a big problem as close to 100 were pulled from the bushes around the site. Hundreds of cigarette butts were collected from the grounds as well.
The two hour work party was finished off with a tally-up, juice and cookies and lots of laughter discussing the strangest finds of the morning. Kudos to a great crew!
