Comox Valley Shoreline Cleanup Report Fall 2023

Lockerby Bear helps Guides Cleanup Goose Spit ~ V. East

During the fall’s Shoreline Cleanup 40 volunteers scoured over 20 km of beaches between the Little River Ferry Terminal and Trent River Estuary looking for garbage. The volunteers included the Comox Guides Group and Lockerby Bear the 2nd and residents of the Ocean Front Village.

15 of the 21 beach sections were cleaned and over 200 kg of garbage and recycling was collected. Some of the most unusual items found included a glucose meter, broken tail lights, bed frame pieces, a large black float and a four foot piece of garden hose.

A big thanks to The City of Courtenay, Town of Comox, the Comox Valley Regional District and Pod Creative for picking up the garbage and transporting it to the appropriate disposal locations.

This is a great activity for families, friend groups or clubs and lots of shoreline to cover. If you missed out this time, don’t worry. We will be doing another cleanup for Earth Week in April.
