GREAT CANADIAN SHORELINE CLEANUP (week of Sept, 17-25)
and B C RIVERS DAY ( Sunday, Sept 25)
On September 25th, join us on land or river in 3 locations: Airpark, Simms Park and Port Augusta Park (St Josephs Hospital site) and between 10am and noon we will collect items that pollute the environment. We will then compare and tally “treasures” to see who has the most unusual find and the greatest volume. Come and have fun while making the Courtenay River Estuary cleaner for all species that live there.
Go online at http://shorelinecleanup.ca/en for more information and to register for the site of your choice. Contact Leader: Bill Heidrick firstname.lastname@example.org for any further questions you may have.
(OCTOBER 28, 29, 30, Friday evening to Sunday afternoon)
In additional to classroom activities, participants will visit a local stream and learn how to conduct habitat surveys, test water quality sample and identify aquatic invertebrates and more. Michele Jones, a biologist, is the leader and will select the field location according to water levels. We need a minimum of 10 participants to run the course and have 4 registrants as of Aug. 15. There is a fee. For more information and to register, go on -line at www.projectwatershed.ca or phone the office: 250 703 2871.
HELP GPS TRAILS!
Project Watershed is looking for people to help GPS walking trails for our next map. Basic GPS knowledge would be an asset, however, we will be holding some training sessions to ensure that all data is collected using the same methods. If you have your own GPS unit that would also be helpful but we do have a few units to lend out. As a token of our appreciation for your time and energy volunteers will receive a copy of the map once it is complete. Please contact Caila Holbrook at maps.projectwatershed@gmail.
