Puntledge River
Salmon
The Fish and Wildlife Compensation Program (FWCP), which is a partnership between BC Hydro, the Province of BC, and Fisheries and Oceans Canada, was established to address the historical effects of hydroelectric development on fish and wildlife. The program used to be called The Bridge Coastal Fish and Wildlife Restoration Program (BCRP) and you may see this in some of our reports. Project Watershed’s FWCP funded Puntledge Watershed research, restoration, assessment and protection studies are the outcome of suggestions & recommendations from local stewardship organisations, industry and government.
The FWCP/BCRP has funded Project Watershed projects since 2006, however BC Hydro (through FWCP/BCRP) has been funding projects in the Puntledge Watershed since 1999. Led by local biologists working with Project Watershed Society, the Puntledge River Projects are aimed at re-building summer chinook salmon stocks in the Puntledge River Watershed. Recently FWCP has also funded a few projects located in the K’ómoks Estuary.
