We had an impressive turn out for this year’s Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup at the Kus-kus-sum site and Hollyhock Flats area. 24 adults and children participated and collected 36 bags of garbage! We estimated that the garbage collected weighted about 300lbs.

The top three kinds of garbage that was collected were:
[av_font_icon icon=’ue8bd’ font=’entypo-fontello’ style=” caption=” link=” linktarget=” size=’25px’ position=’left’ color=” admin_preview_bg=”][/av_font_icon] 760 small pieces of plastic and foam [av_font_icon icon=’ue8bd’ font=’entypo-fontello’ style=” caption=” link=” linktarget=” size=’25px’ position=’left’ color=” admin_preview_bg=”][/av_font_icon] 436 cigarette butts [av_font_icon icon=’ue8bd’ font=’entypo-fontello’ style=” caption=” link=” linktarget=” size=’25px’ position=’left’ color=” admin_preview_bg=”][/av_font_icon] 295 pieces of clothing/material (tents, sleeping bags) Our volunteers felt that the strangest pieces of garbage found were a soft dolphin toy and a couple of car side mirrors. We also removed a large number of used needles from the area. [/av_promobox] [av_textblock size=” font_color=” color=” admin_preview_bg=”]A big thank you to all the volunteers who came out and helped! Some even stayed an extra hour removing more garbage and helping pile it up for removal. We would also like to thank the Comox Valley Regional District for disposing of the garbage we collected.[/av_textblock] [/av_one_half] [av_one_half min_height=” vertical_alignment=” space=” custom_margin=” margin=’0px’ padding=’0px’ border=” border_color=” radius=’0px’ background_color=” src=” background_position=’top left’ background_repeat=’no-repeat’ animation=” mobile_display=”] [av_gallery ids=’14098,14099,14097,14096,14184,14116′ style=’big_thumb’ preview_size=’portfolio’ crop_big_preview_thumbnail=’avia-gallery-big-crop-thumb’ thumb_size=’portfolio’ columns=’3′ imagelink=’lightbox’ lazyload=’deactivate_avia_lazyload’ admin_preview_bg=”] [/av_one_half]
