Kus-kus-sum Spixls – Restoration Time-lapse

Help Make History

Take photos of Kus-kus-sum at a Spixl station!

There are two Spixl locations. One is on the northeast side of the 17th Street Bridge where the bridge meets the sidewalk, overlooking the site. Newton the newt is pictured using this one. This site is publicly accessible, and we encourage everyone to contribute photos to help us document the evolution of the restoration.

The other location is on the balcony of a room in the Old House Hotel. Hotel guests staying in this room can access this station. It is a great way to spread information about the restoration to visitors and those abroad.

Luke Phillips from LSP Media has helped us create what he has dubbed Spixl Projects – crowd sourced time-lapse photo documentations of a site. We currently have two Spixl Projects for Kus-kus-sum. Each Spixl Project includes a station near Kus-kus-sum where people can take a photo of the site and upload it to an online space where it is stored. The photos are catalogued based on the date they were taken and displayed together in a time-lapse format, as shown in the images on this page.

To help us record and show the changes at Kus-kus-sum over time we need people taking and uploading photos. You do not need any special equipment for this, just your smartphone, having a data plan helps but you can also upload the photos once you get back to wifi.

With every photo contributed, we can create a comprehensive visual record of the changes taking place at Kus-kus-sum.

How to Spixl

Go to the Spixl location

Use your smartphone to scan the QR code (this will open a website to upload pic)

Set your smartphone on the phone mount (this ensures all the pictures are from the same perspective)

Take photo and upload (if offline upload at https://spixl.io/project/4 when you have wifi)

Repeat every day you pass the site!
