Cumberland Forest Society Receives 2020 Keeping it Living Award
Project Watershed’s Estuary Working Group has chosen the Cumberland Community Forest Society as the 2020 Keeping It Living Award recipients.
Salt Marsh Restoration in the K’ómoks Estuary at Dyke Slough
This restoration built up a new marsh platform to replace lost, historic tidal marsh. The newly build platform is then planted, all to help support wildlife and coastal resiliency in our thriving estuary.
Project Watershed`s 2021 Annual Report
Despite the global pandemic, Project Watershed has made progress worth celebrating over the past year. There have been some major changes and we are continually adapting to the new normal. However, we remain dedicated to stewarding, and enabling others to steward, the Comox Valley and beyond. Our work is just as important as ever and we are grateful for all the people who have joined us over the past year. This report highlights our organizational changes and achievements between the beginning of summer 2020 and the end of spring 2021.
Preparations Have Begun to Unpave Kus-kus-sum
Even though there isn’t much activity on the Kus-kus-sum site just yet, don’t be fooled. Behind the scenes, Project Watershed staff and volunteers are busy getting everything ready to start removing the hard surfacing, both concrete and asphalt on site this summer.
Earth Week Celebration Summary
Thank you to everyone who participated in and contributed to our Earth Week activities! We had to make some adjustments to keep everyone safe but in the end we were able to show our appreciation for the Earth and have some fun too.
Project Watershed’s 2021 Online Annual General Meeting
Comox Valley Project Watershed is hosting our 2021 AGM on May 30th at 7pm. It will be entirely online through Zoom. Everyone is invited to join and must preregister to receive the AGM package which will include the Zoom details.

Earth Week with Project Watershed
Spring has sprung and we are busy planning for Earth Week 2021! Earth Week is April 16 – 22, and we will be celebrating our love for this planet with a host of activities to support the health of our Lands and Waters.
Forage Fish Spring 2021 Update and eDNA information
With the crocuses and daffodils in bloom and herring in the news I think we can say it is spring. Spring means another season of intertidal forage fish field validation is complete.
Project Watershed Plans for Spring Eelgrass Transplants
Spring – a great time for planting in your garden and in the intertidal/subtidal zones. Once again Project Watershed will be working to restore eelgrass (Zostera marina) habitats by undertaking transplants in areas where the eelgrass is sparse or missing as determined by our coastal nearshore habitat mapping work.
The building at Kus-kus-sum is down!
The condemned office building at Kus-kus-sum, formerly known as Field Sawmill, came down March 23, 2021. Comox Valley Project Watershed Society, with funding from the Fish and Wildlife Compensation Program, led the work.
